Cómo usar el 's en Inglés y descripción con adjetivos

Aquí damos un paso importante en el aprendizaje del inglés: aprender a preguntar por la posesión o pertenencia de objetos o cosas usando "Whose". Además, se introducen adjetivos comunes para describir personas y objetos, así como la estructura para indicar posesión con "'s".

Possessions

's is used to indicate possession or ownership. It is added to the end of a noun.

  1. When the owner is a person:

    • It is the house of Ann. -> It is Ann's house.
    • This is the car of my brother. -> This is my brother's car.
  2. When the owner is an animal:

    • The tail of the dog is long. -> The dog's tail is long.
    • The cage of the bird is small. -> The bird's cage is small.
  3. After a singular noun we add 's:

    • The book of the student -> The student's book.
    • The room of the teacher -> The teacher's room.

  • Carlos's bike is new. -> Carlos' bike is new.
  • A women's dress is beautiful.
  • I have a week's vacation.
  • The company's profits are increasing. -> The profits of the company are increasing.
  • My parents' house is big. -> The house of my parents is big.

Describing with adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns. In English, adjectives usually come before the noun they describe.

The adjectives are invariable, they do not change in singular or plural form:

  • A big house / big houses.
  • A red car / red cars.
  • A happy child / happy children.
  • You and I are good friends.

Physical descriptions

When describing people, we often use adjectives to talk about their physical appearance and personality traits. Here are some common adjectives used for physical descriptions:

  • He is tall and strong.
  • She has long blonde hair.
  • They are young and happy.
  • The woman in the picture looks sad.
  • The young man is athletic and intelligent.
  • My grandmother is old but very wise.

Dani and Tom

Dani has a new friend. His name is Tom. Tom is very tall and strong. He has short black hair and blue eyes. Tom is also very intelligent and funny. Dani and Tom like to play soccer together. They are both very good players. One day, Dani asked Tom, "Whose ball is this?" Tom replied, "It is my ball." They laughed and continued playing soccer in the park.
