Up Arriba Indicates a higher position or direction. The cat climbed up the tree.
Through A través de Indicates movement from one side to another. She walked through the park.
Over Sobre / Encima de Indicates a position higher than something else. The lamp is over the table.
Outside Afuera Refers to the external side of something. The kids are playing outside.
Out of Fuera de Indicates being beyond the limits of something. He stepped out of the room.
Next to Al lado de Indicates a position beside or adjacent to something. The bank is next to the grocery store.
Into Dentro de Indicates movement toward the inside of something. She went into the house.
Inside Adentro Refers to the internal side of something. The keys are inside the drawer.
In front of Delante de Indicates a position ahead or before something. The car is parked in front of the building.
Far Lejos Indicates a great distance from a point. The mountains are far from the city.
Down Abajo Indicates a lower position or direction. The ball rolled down the hill.
Behind Detrás de Indicates a position at the back of something. The garden is behind the house.
Around Alrededor de Indicates movement in a circular direction or surrounding something. They walked around the park.
Across A través de (Al otro lado de) Indicates movement from one side to another. She swam across the river.
Front Frente The forward part or surface of something. The front of the building is painted blue.
Here Aquí Indicates a location close to the speaker. The book is here on the table.
Many Muchos / Muchas A large number of people or things. There are many stars in the sky.
Upstairs Arriba (en una casa) Refers to the upper floor of a building. The bedrooms are upstairs.
Try Intentar To make an effort to do something. She will try to finish her homework.
Shop Tienda A place where goods are sold. I went to the shop to buy groceries.
Stairs Escaleras A set of steps that connect different levels of a building. He climbed the stairs to the second floor.
Tree Árbol A woody plant that typically has a single stem or trunk and grows to a considerable height. The tree provides shade in the summer.
Way Camino / Manera A method or route for going from one place to another. This is the way to the park.
Video room Sala de video A room equipped for watching videos or movies. We watched a movie in the video room.
Yard Patio / Jardín An area of land next to a house, often used for gardening or recreation. The children are playing in the yard.
Front yard Patio delantero The area of land in front of a house. The front yard has beautiful flowers.
Back yard Patio trasero The area of land behind a house. The back yard is perfect for barbecues.
Cafeteria Cafetería A place where food and drinks are served, often in a school or workplace. We had lunch in the cafeteria.
Auditorium Auditorio A large room or hall used for public gatherings, performances, or lectures. The concert was held in the auditorium.
Mall Centro comercial A large building or complex containing various shops and businesses. We went shopping at the mall.
People Gente / Personas Human beings in general or a group of individuals. There are many people at the event.
Let's go Vamos An expression used to suggest going somewhere. Let's go to the park.
See you later Nos vemos luego A phrase used to say goodbye with the intention of meeting again. See you later at the party.
According to Según Used to indicate the source of information or opinion. According to the report, sales have increased.
So many Tantos / Tantas A large number of people or things. There are so many books in the library.

Prepositions

Las preposiciones son palabras que se usan para mostrar la relación entre un sustantivo (o pronombre) y otras palabras en una oración. Indican dirección, lugar, tiempo, causa, manera, entre otros. Para los determinados ejemplos, imagina principalmente a un gato y una caja.

  1. The cat jumped out of the box:

"Out of" is used to indicate movement from the inside to the outside of something. In this case, the cat is moving from inside the box to outside of it.

  1. The cat went into the box:

"Into" is used to indicate movement toward the inside of something. Here, the cat is moving from outside the box to inside it.

  1. The cat is inside the box:

"Inside" indicates that the cat is located within the boundaries of the box.

  1. The cat is outside the box:

"Outside" indicates that the cat is located beyond the boundaries of the box.

  1. The cat is on the box:

"On" indicates that the cat is positioned on the surface of the box.

  1. The cat is under the box:

"Under" indicates that the cat is positioned below the box.

  1. The cat is next to the box:

"Next to" indicates that the cat is positioned beside or adjacent to the box.

  1. The cat jumped over the box:

"Over" indicates that the cat moved from one side of the box to the other by going above it.

  1. The cat walked around the box:

"Around" indicates that the cat moved in a circular path surrounding the box.

  1. The cat is in front of the box:

"In front of" indicates that the cat is positioned ahead or before the box.

  1. The cat is behind the box:

"Behind" indicates that the cat is positioned at the back of the box. We can't see the cat.

  1. The cat climbed up the box:

"Up" indicates that the cat moved to a higher position on the box.

  1. The cat climbed down the box:

"Down" indicates that the cat moved to a lower position from the box.

  1. The cat jumped across the box:

"Across" indicates that the cat moved from one side of the box to the other side, typically by jumping over it. You cross an area, river, street, avenue, etc.

  1. The cat is far from the box:

"Far" indicates that the cat is at a great distance from the box.

  1. The cat is near the box:

"Near" indicates that the cat is close to the box.

  1. The cat walked through the box:

"Through" indicates that the cat moved from one side of the box to the other side by going inside it. This is more abstract since boxes are not typically hollow, but imagine a box with openings on both sides.

  1. The cat walked along the box:

"Along" indicates that the cat moved in a line following the length of the box.

  1. The cat is between two boxes:

"Between" indicates that the cat is positioned in the middle of two boxes.
